    Benefit home groundbreaking Feb. 23

Here's a news release from the Greater Houston Homebuilders Association:

Village Builders, a part of the Lennar family of builders, will be breaking ground on Tuesday, Feb. 23, to begin construction of one of two 2010 Greater Houston Builders Association Benefit Homes. Village Builders is donating the construction of their 4307 sq. ft. DaVinci Plan. Village Builders is constructing the home in Oakhurst at Kingwood. Friendswood Development donated the homesite.

For over 35 years the Village Builder’s brand has been synonymous with excellence and is founded on a tradition of quality craftsmanship and innovative design. And, in 2009 Village Builders won the JD Powers and Associates Highest Ranking in Customer Satisfaction in Houston (in a tie).*

The Village Builder’s brand is backed by the strength and solid foundation of Lennar. Lennar Homes has been an industry leader building with quality, value, and integrity since 1954.

Each year two homes are built for the Benefit Homes Project, a GHBA charity. The homes are built with donated materials, labor, services and land by members of the GHBA. The homes are loaded with amenities and upgrades and are priced at market value. The majority of the proceeds from the sale are donated to three Houston charities, Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the Alzheimer’s Association and HomeAid Houston. Since the Project began, more than $5 million has been raised.

This year marks the Project’s 30th anniversary. “This annual GHBA fund raiser has a solid reputation throughout the homebuilding industry as well as the community,” said Don Klein, chairman of the Project. “Even in the tough economy over the past few years, Houston’s builders continue to stay active in giving back. Village Builders committed to being onboard months ago. Friendswood also stepped up immediately to get involved. Young cancer patients, the elderly and individuals facing homelessness will benefit from the generosity of these two award winning organizations.”

The ground breaking will be the official ceremony to get things rolling toward raising valuable funds. The Project is approaching the $6 million mark and should reach that figure after the sale of the Village Builder’s home.

Village Builders management, staff and dozens of vendors who are committed to the construction of the home will be on-hand to break ground. Representatives from the charities and the GHBA will also be participating.

The Greater Houston Builders Association is a membership service organization for Houston’s homebuilding industry. The Association provides education, government advocacy and a networking venue.

A second Benefit Home is currently on the market. This home was constructed by Trendmaker Homes in The Woodlands. The Woodlands Development Co. donated the homesite. The home is located at 30 Clare Point Dr.
