PRIVATE PILOTS can log some flying time while helping people in need. A regional pilots’ network is recruiting volunteers to use their own planes to fly ambulatory medical outpatients from outlying areas to any of a number of greater Houston area airports (including two close to Humble and Kingwood) where other volunteers will take them to their medical appointments or temporary lodgings. Expenses incurred by pilots are tax deductible.

EXECUTIVES ARE WANTED by an association that provides business consulting services for nonprofit organizations throughout greater Houston. These executives lend their know-how to enable these organizations to solve problems and improve services. If you are an active or retired executive with expertise in any of the key areas essential to running a business, consider committing a few hours a month to these efforts.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS on the part of volunteers can help immigrant females overcome the ravages of rape, human trafficking, domestic abuse, and other forms of violence. If you are fluent in French, Thai, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Hindi, or Spanish, consider serving as an interpreter for women or girls at meetings with pro bono attorneys or at intake processing sessions at shelters in the Kingwood/Humble area. You'll have a variety of times and locations to choose from.

A SYMPATHETIC EAR will serve you well as a volunteer interviewer for a Humble social service agency that helps families experiencing economic hardship. If you can commit three hours a week on the weekday of your choice, training will equip you to assess clients’ needs and, when appropriate, authorize tangible assistance with food, clothing, or financial aid. The main requirements for this assignment are sound judgment and good interpersonal skills.
