Kingwood Pines Hospital will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon today to unveil its 19,000-square-feet expanded facilities. Expansion will include 38 additional beds to service geriatric and chemical dependency patients.

On Aug. 7, the Kingwood/Humble community will join together with hundreds of others to help assist the family of 16-yr-old Rachel Zientek, with their mounting medical expenses as she fights to recover from a fiery plane crash in Alaska that has left her with burns on a large percentage of her body and other very serious injuries.

Kevin Spencer has been battling heart problems his entire life. Between the ages of 5 and 23, he underwent five open-heart surgeries. In 1992, he received a heart transplant. Although his new heart worked well for many years, Spencer, 55, began feeling very weak in 2008. After a few months of testing, Spencer learned he had developed coronary artery vasculopathy. Doctors have told him a second heart transplant is his only hope for a second chance at life.
