    Kingwood Park High School is kicking off the new school year with a celebration Aug. 21. The Football Kickoff Celebration, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the KPark football field, is open to anyone in the community.

    This month will start the first school year for Quest Early College High School, a project intended to make higher education more accessible by allowing students to earn college credits and their diplomas simultaneously. Incoming freshmen, the class of 2014, will be able to earn an Associate’s degree or up to 60 hours of credit toward a Bachelor’s degree free of charge through a partnership between Humble Independent School District and Lone Star College-Kingwood.

    The Humble Independent School District has achieved the label of “recognized” in state accountability rankings, meeting a long-standing goal. It is only the second time Humble ISD has achieved the state’s second-highest rank since 1996. And the district has earned this label, announced along with ratings for all Texas schools July 30, without aid from a controversial formula that appears to have inflated accountability rankings from the Texas Education Agency over the last two years.
