    Activists for and against the city of Houston's red-light camera program crossed swords Monday as opponents of the devices turned in more than 30,000 signatures backing a proposed charter amendment to have the cameras banned.

    Houston police have notified 79,000 motorists that they cannot renew their vehicle registrations until they pay red light camera fines and penalties, even though Harris County officials repeatedly have said they will not prevent people from registering their vehicles because of the outstanding citations.

    Westbound Kingwood Drive is set to get a right turn lane at the intersection of Green Oak Drive. Construction is set to start just before Thanksgiving and should last through the first quarter of 2010.

    Students, faculty and parents at Kingwood Park High School can expect short-term delays along North Park Drive and Woodland Hills. By the end of the first quarter of 2010, the intersection is expected to be safer and easier to use.

    Councilman Mike Sullivan said right turn lanes have been approved for the intersection of Kingwood Drive and West Lake Houston Parkway. If there is such as thing as worry-free construction for commuters, Sullivan said this project could be it.

    Townsen Boulevard has recently proved to be a hot spot for afternoon speeding busts. On just one day last week, 16 speeding tickets were issued along Townsen Boulevard between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

    The Houston Police Department's Kingwood Patrol division is paying extra attention to traffic along Kings Crossing Drive. The road has already been a hot spot for speeding tickets with more than 150 tickets issued in two weeks.
