The following news release is about a free concert at Kingwood United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 21.
Kingwood United Methodist Church is proud to present the first of our FREE shows in our community concert series. Baylor ShowTime will be in concert at Kingwood United Methodist (1799 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339) on Sunday March 21, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in the Gym. The entire community is welcome to attend this free concert.
BAYLOR SHOWTIME! is one of the premier academic performing ensembles in the United States. This musical theatre ensemble presents music from Broadway, the American Songbook, and Top 40 hits in a fully choreographed, review-style show.
Created in 1980, the ensemble performs regularly for Baylor University and community events and has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Central America, and Europe. Since 2001, SHOWTIME! has had three tours as Artists-In-Residence for the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. SHOWTIME! has also performed for various professional organizations including Texas Music Educator's Association, the Southwest American Choral Directors Association, and the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
The students in this auditioned ensemble represent a variety of majors from music to business to religion. Additionally, all members of Baylor SHOWTIME! are recipients of the Virginia Furrow Singers Scholarship. The group stands as a hallmark for excellence in providing outstanding singing and dancing.
BAYLOR SHOWTIME! is directed and accompanied by Mr. Daniel Farris. Mr. Farris is also a Lecturer in the Academic Music Studies Division of the School of Music. Choreographer for SHOWTIME! is Jerry MacLauchlin, faculty member at McLennan College in Waco.
The 2009-2010 repertoire will include a varied collection of songs from Tin Pan Alley, the "Great American Songbook", and the Broadway musical stage. This year's show will include titles such as "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast, "The Book Report" from You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, "Frim Fram Sauce", "Hey, Good Lookin", selections from Into the Woods, and many more.
