Republican women to welcome Churchill descendant

The Kingwood Area Republican Women (KARW) will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, May 18, at the Kingwood Country Club.

The meeting will feature special guest Jonathan Sandys, the great-grandson of Sir Winston Churchill and the chairman and founder of Churchill's Britain Foundation.

Hampered with dyslexia throughout his school life, Sandy suffered many setbacks and, like his great-grandfather, had a bad time at school. His personal experience with education became one of Churchill's Britain Foundation's main focuses -- to help students and adults with learning challenges.

Guests are welcomed at 11 a.m. The meeting will be called to order at 11:30 a.m. followed by a buffet luncheon for a fee of $20. The program will start at noon.

For lunch reservations, contact Wendy Alexander by Monday, May 16, at 281-359-3557 or wendyalexander160@gmail.com.

As part of KARW’s ongoing support for the community and troops overseas, guests are asked to bring tax-deductible donations. For the Society of St. Stephen, guests can bring baby items such as diapers, baby food and wipes. For Children of Afghanistan, guests can bring babies' and children’s Crocs or sandals, children’s sunglasses, Beanie Babies or small stuffed animals, crayons, coloring books and candy. And, for Marines and sailors, guests can bring beef jerky, wipes and hand sanitizer, hygiene products, toiletries and candy.

The Kingwood Country Club is located at 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail.
