Local cops participate in Special Olympics fundraiser
The "Tip a Cop" campaign at the Texas Roadhouse to support the Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) will kick off on Thursday, July 28.
During the fundraiser, highway troopers, police officers, sheriff’s deputies and other Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) members will exchange their uniforms for aprons to serve up support for SOTX at participating locations.
LETR members will greet and serve patrons during dinner from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., collecting tips to support SOTX’s Greater Houston- and Gulf Coast-area athletes.
The participating eateries are the Texas Roadhouse restaurants located at 124-B FM 1960 East and 13345 FM 1960 West in Houston; 20840 Katy Freeway in Katy; 23750 U.S. 59 North in Kingwood, and 3033 E. Sam Houston Parkway in Pasadena.
LETR, the Special Olympics’s largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle, began in 1985 and has contributed more than $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX.
SOTX is a privately funded nonprofit organization providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Texas.
