Humble/Kingwood Roundup: Problems offensively, defensively sink Mustangs

Tailback Van Ross, who rushed for a 116 yards in a win over Clear Creek, was injured on the first play of the game and didn't return, making the Mustangs' option offense a little less effective. Conversely, the Bearkats' running game took off behind hard-running sophomore David Hamm, who the Mustangs just couldn't seem to bring down. [...] they responded rather well to a series of unfortunate circumstances. Not only was Ross injured on the first play, quarterback Kade Harrington fumbled and the Bearkats recovered, and just two plays later took a quick 7-0 lead on a 1-yard keeper by Alex Smith [...] the Mustangs answered with what turned out to be their best drive, one that covered 74 yards on 13 plays, culminating with Harrington scoring on his own 1-yard keeper on fourth-and-goal. The defense collected three Klein fumbles, but the offense turned only the first one into a field goal before fumbling the ball away themselves after the second and turning it over on downs after the third.
