Cancer patients use yoga in recovery
Yoga for Cancer Survivors classes, which are free and open to the public, are for people going through treatment, surgeries and recovery. Linda Wuest, Memorial Hermann oncology nurse navigator, began the program after researching the results of yoga and cancer survivors. In 2007, Alyson Moadel of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, studied the effects of yoga in breast cancer patients. Study participants improved in social and emotional well-being compared with those in the control group who didn't participate in yoga classes. According to Moadel, yoga showed benefits for several aspects of quality of life including decreased emotional distress and enhanced spiritual well-being. Instructor, Sandy Brady, a cancer survivor who has gone through surgeries and radiation, has years of experience under her belt.
