Houston police release composite of man known to be posing as a police officer

The Houston Police Department’s Major Offenders Division has released a composite of a man purporting to be a police officer who they say pulled over a woman and searched her vehicle on the afternoon of Jan. 18.

The man is described as a white male, possibly in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, weighing 250 to 275 pounds, with a muscular build and bleached blonde hair. He was wearing aviator-style sunglasses and was dressed in black clothing with BDU pants, but was not wearing a badge or a name plate.

The man was also wearing a holstered pistol and was driving a newer model black Chevrolet Tahoe with red-and-blue overhead lights and blue lights in the grill. The vehicle also had red-and-white lettering on the driver’s side door.

According to an HPD news release, a woman was driving home on the Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) around 2:30 p.m., when she noticed the Tahoe behind her and assumed it was a police vehicle. When the driver switched on his overhead lights a short time later, the woman pulled over in the 22200 block of Eastex.

The woman told officers she rolled down her window some when the man approached and he immediately began to curse at her. She got out of her car and the man escorted her to the front of her vehicle and told her he was going to search it.

After searching the vehicle and leaving items he took from the car on the ground, the man allegedly told the woman he was going to give her a warning, at which time he got back in the Tahoe and drove away, heading north on Eastex Freeway.

Anyone with information pertaining to this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Offender's Division at 713-308-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
