Cadet Col. Daniel Shellhouse earns highest award
Daniel Shellhouse, a cadet colonel with the Civil Air Patrol, has earned the General Carl A. Spaatz Award, the program's highest achievement for cadets.
The Civil Air Patrol is the auxiliary of the United States Air Force.
On average, only two out of every 1,000 cadets earn the award, which involves the completion of 16 achievements measuring physical fitness, character development, leadership ability and aerospace knowledge.
Shellhouse has been in the Civil Air Patrol for six years and is a member of the Kingwood-based Marauder Composite Squadron.
He has earned his solo flight wings in gliders and single-engine aircraft as well as a private pilot certificate.
