LSC-Kingwood to hold information session on respiratory care program
Lone Star College-Kingwood will hold an information session about its respiratory care program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 in the Health Science Building Room 116.
According to a college's website, prospective students will be provided with a student perspective of the program through discussions by current students enrolled. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions about the program, which trains students to become skilled professionals able to carry out specific therapeutic measures that will help respiratory-distressed patients.
"The purpose of the respiratory care program is to develop effective, efficient members of the health care team specializing in the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic heart and lung disease," said Kenny McCowen, respiratory care program director.
Students enrolled in the two-year respiratory care program learn a variety of skills including the evaluation and assessment of patients in the acute, sub-acute and home care areas, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway care, mechanical ventilation, diagnostic testing, and home care and rehabilitation.
"The program prepares individuals to become active members of the healthcare team to deliver quality respiratory care and improve the lives of individuals they treat during their professional career of respiratory care," McCowen said.
