Kingwood High School grad Wannamaker records 13 kills in Colorado School of Mines win

Kingwood High School graduate Melanie Wannamaker had 13 kills Nov. 3, as the Colorado School of Mines rolled to a 3-2 victory over Metro State in women's college volleyball action.

Wannamaker, a junior middle blocker, also contributed one block and three digs in the win, along with a .344 hitting percentage.

The Orediggers won 19-25, 25-17, 25-22, 16-25 and 15-10 at Auraria Event Center in Denver. The team is now 21-5 on the season.

The next contest for the Colorado School of Mines is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 on the road against Colorado Christian.

A two-time letter-winner in volleyball at Kingwood, she earned second-team All-District and Academic All-District honors while leading the Mustangs to a district title as a junior. She tied the Kingwood individual single-match record for block assists in 2008. Wannamaker garnered first-team All-District and Academic All-District accolades following her senior campaign. She also earned two letters in soccer.
