Kingwood High School grad Wannamaker records 17 kills in Colorado School of Mines win
Kingwood High School graduate Melanie Wannamaker had 17 kills Nov. 6, as the Colorado School of Mines rolled to a 3-0 victory over Colorado Christian in women's college volleyball action.
Wannamaker, a junior middle blocker, also contributed three blocks and two digs in the win, along with a .483 hitting percentage.
The Ore Diggers won 25-27, 26-24 and 25-23 at Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colo. The team is now 22-5 on the season.
The next contest for the Colorado School of Mines is 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, on the road against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
A two-time letter-winner in volleyball at Kingwood, Wannamaker earned second-team All-District and Academic All-District honors while leading the Mustangs to a district title as a junior. She tied the Kingwood individual single-match record for block assists in 2008. Wannamaker garnered first-team All-District and Academic All-District accolades following her senior campaign. She also earned two letters in soccer.
