LSC-Kingwood hosts Dance Student Showcase

The kinesiology and dance department at Lone Star College-Kingwood hosted the Dance Student Showcase Friday, Nov. 9 in the Fitness and Training Center.

The showcase featured 14 dance works performed and choreographed by students.

According to a press release, the evening included solo performances by third- and fourth-year dance performance students, along with four short movement studies explored during the compositional unit of the class. In addition, members of Dance Ensemble, a student club, gave group performances.

One of the performances titled "Angry Birds" and inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock movie "The Birds" involved a hunter killing the leader of a tribe of birds. Performer Anastasia Bakhvalova said, "The message of this dance is that we as humans are controlled by a higher power and forced to mimic it."

"Til Death Do Us Part" expressed the struggles that people went through in Europe during the Holocaust. Student chorographer Anthony Davis said in the release that, "With such a broad topic, I wanted to explore the relationship between a husband, his wife and the surrounding community of Jewish citizens during the Holocaust."

All funds raised from admission will help students attend the American College Dance Festival in March 2013.

Lone Star College-Kingwood is located at 20000 Kingwood Drive, #168, Kingwood.
