Haute Flash Contessa is the lady next door

Local author and humorist Danielle Schaaf worked in public relations for more than 25 years before pursuing a career as an entertainer. Around the same time, she began developing a comedic character, the Haute Flash Contessa, a relatable middle-aged mom, housewife, working woman, entrepreneur and community volunteer who would rather kick back with a big glass of wine than do the laundry. Schaaf and the Contessa have a lot in common: Both are married to their longtime loves and have twin sons and a daughter.

“It’s a riff on everyday stuff that women deal with, but it’s done in kind of a snarky, sarcastic, comedic vein,” Schaaf said.

“Women and men really relate to the stuff that the contessa gets herself into.”

Schaaf now writes a weekly syndicated column as the Haute Flash Contessa for a local newspaper. She’s also taken the contessa on the road with her comedy act, “Contessa Uncorked.” Schaaf has performed her act for various business networking and social groups, and at the Humble ISD Volunteers in Public Schools fall event and the Veranda Restaurant in Kingwood.

“I realized I had a knack for that kind of entertainment, not just writing, but actually getting up there and being a storyteller,” Schaaf said.

 “That’s kind of how my comedy shows have evolved.”

When she’s not telling the stories of the Haute Flash Contessa in print and at events, Schaaf enjoys working out and attending St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood. She describes herself as “an eclectic reader” who reads a wide variety of genres.
