Local schools, churches, scout organizations help restock food pantry
Local schools, churches and scout organizations conducted numerous food drives in September and November to help the Society of St. Stephen restock its pantry, it was recently announced.
"These donations came at a critical food cycle time for our pantry operations," said Society of St. Stephen Pantry Coordinator Jim Rutherford in a press release. "Our client demand during the summer, with children at home, is always heavy, so our overall food inventory was very low heading into the fall holiday season. These donations were greatly appreciated."
According to the press release, "substantial food donations were contributed by Holy Comforter-Lutheran and First Presbyterian churches. Local schools participating included Woodland Hills, Foster, Elm Grove, Bear Branch, Hidden Hollow, Deerwood, Willow Creek, Shadow Forest, Pines Montessori, Riverwood Middle and Kingwood high schools. Eagle Scout candidates Andrew Martinez, from Boy Scout Troup 727, and Erich Hine, from Troup 1377, were also very instrumental in generating over 2,000 pounds of donated canned goods as well as collecting close to $1,000 from generous community supporters."
The Society of St. Stephen is at 1799 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood.
