Hertzenberg, DeDe coming to Nathaniel Center
Kristen Hertzenberg and DeDe will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Nathaniel Center Friday, Dec. 21.
They will perform a second show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22
Larry Wedekind and Gene Keen will be the opening act.
Tickets range from $16 to $30 for the show.

Schools, Scouts, churches help stock local pantry
Local schools, churches and Scout organizations conducted numerous food drives in September and November to help the Society of St. Stephen restock its pantry.
According to a press release, substantial food donations were contributed by Holy Comforter-Lutheran and First Presbyterian churches. Schools participating included Woodland Hills, Foster, Elm Grove, Bear Branch, Hidden Hollow, Deerwood, Willow Creek, Shadow Forest, Pines Montessori, Riverwood Middle and Kingwood high schools. Eagle Scout candidates Andrew Martinez, from Boy Scout Troop 727, and Erich Hine, from Troop 1377, were instrumental in collecting more than 2,000 pounds of donated canned goods as well as close to $1,000 from community supporters.

Humble native completes basic military training
Air Force Airman Gloria Diaz-Villanueva has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
The Humble native completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills, according to a press release.
Diaz-Villanueva is a 2010 graduate of C.E. King High School and the daughter of Erasmo and Natalia Diaz of Humble.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Atascocita United Methodist plans blood drive
Atascocita United Methodist Church will host a blood drive from 8 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 in its front parking lot in Humble.
According to a press release from Atascocita United Methodist Church, all potential donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent. Attendees are required to bring a valid photo ID and must weigh at least 110 pounds. Sixteen-year-old attendees must weigh 122 pounds. Potential donors must also be in general good health, without any cold or flu symptoms.”

Soderbergh named YMCA Volunteer of Year
The Lake Houston Family YMCA has named Katherine Soderbergh as this year’s Volunteer of the Year, the agency’s highest volunteer honor.
Soderbergh was presented with her award at the YMCA of Greater Houston annual celebration held last month at the Westin Memorial City, according to a press release.
She joined 36 other nominees from area YMCA centers to receive a standing ovation and recognition for their part in strengthening the YMCA community.
Soderbergh has been involved in several YMCA special events, raising funds for the annual Partners Scholarship Campaign. She was instrumental in the event, raising more than $100,000 for the scholarship program. The total Partners Campaign raised more than $225,000 that is awarded to families who can’t afford the cost of YMCA membership and programs.
