Lone Star College System wins financial reporting award for excellence

The Lone Star College System was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

This marks the eighth year that LSCS has been recognized for this award, which was given for the 2011 comprehensive annual financial report, according to a press release.

Sixty-nine out of 1,132 community colleges in the country were recognized for this achievement. Twenty percent of these come from the state of Texas.

The school retains a AAA rating from the Standard and Poor's Ratings service, the release says.

"The continued accomplishments of this department reflect the consistency, dedication and commitment of its staff members to being fiscally responsible," said Richard Carpenter, LSCS chancellor, in the release. "This team is committed to helping LSCS to be at the best bottom line possible, and not just a financial bottom line but an equally meaningful result, a successful student."

This award is the highest honor conferred to a government entity in the area of accounting.

According to the report, LSCS's financial report met the high standards of the program, demonstrated a constructive spirit of full disclosure and clearly communicated LSCS's financial story.
