Grand Texas Theme Park project moves forward in East Montgomery County

The Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County reports that the new Grand Texas theme park is scheduled for an opening date of March 12, 2015.

That news, according to a chamber press release, comes from a project update given to the East Montgomery County Improvement District board of directors Thursday, Feb. 14.

The information was presented to the board by theme park chairman Max Bachrach and park project lead Monty Galland. The two revealed that a site has been chosen and the property is now under contract. The $205 million project is expected to carry an annual economic impact of $334 million, according to the release.

The new complex is expected to attract more than 1.4 million visitors a year and will spawn 1,328 construction jobs over the next three years, according to the release. The park will provide employment for approximately 1,325 people and will feature parking for 4,500 vehicles.

"We are very excited to learn the details of the Grand Texas project and look forward to working with Max and Monty as this project goes forward," said Andy Dill, chamber president, in the press release. "This will be a great tourism draw for our area, create jobs, and help keep East Montgomery County moving forward economically."

Included in the planned 12-acre theme park will be a water park, 8,000 seat amphitheater, baseball park, a paintball complex, Flint Ranch Agra entertainment area, retail stores, dining centers, a 200 to 400 room hotel, reception hall, wedding chapel and four stand-alone restaurants.

The Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County is at 21575 Highway 50 N., Suite 100, New Caney.
